Subject: Little FYI: Wi-Fi calling services on AT&T, T-Mobile US,
Verizon are insecure, say boffins
Subscribers using wireless calls wide open to attack
By Thomas Claburn in San Francisco
Boffins from Michigan State University in the US and National Chiao
Tung University in Taiwan have found that the Wi-Fi calling services
offered by AT&T, T-Mobile US, and Verizon suffer from four security
flaws that can be exploited to attack mobile phone users, leaking
private information, harassing them, or interfering with service.
In a research paper distributed through preprint service ArXiv on
Thursday, eight computer scientists - Tian Xie, Guan-Hua Tu, Bangjie
Yin, Chi-Yu Li, Chunyi Peng, Mi Zhang, Hui Liu, and Xiaomin Liu -
dismiss existing Wi-Fi calling security mechanisms. They say that
defenses like storing private keys on SIM cards, 3GPP Authentication
and Key Agreement, IPSec for call signaling and voice/text packets,
and switching to cellular networks to defend against Wi-Fi denial of
service attacks fall short.

Subject: The Unresolved Issue of Verizon Throttling Santa Clara's
Fire Department Shows Why ISPs Need Rules
By Ernesto Falcon And Katharine Trendacosta
In August, it was revealed that Verizon throttled the wireless
broadband services of fire fighters in the middle of a state emergency
and spent four weeks debating with the local fire department while
trying to upsell them a more expensive plan. This week, the Santa
Clara Board of County Supervisors held a hearing to review what
happened during the state's worst fire in history. The hearing
revealed that, Verizon's statements to the contrary, nothing about
this public safety issue has been resolved.
EFF testified at the hearing to provide an understanding as to the
legal and technical issues that are part of the conflict to assist the
county in its review. In addition, EFF believes Verizon's conduct
would have subjected them to penalties under the 2015 Open Internet
Order, because the actions by Verizon's sales team appeared to be
unjust and unreasonable under Title II of the Communications
Act. Verizon have fully admitted that they were at fault and wrong to
have engaged in the conduct and have offered to end some of the
business practices that led to the problem for the west coast states
and Hawaii.

Subject: When Tumblr bans porn, who loses?
Verizon is leaving the engine of internet culture to sputter and die,
and its communities to scramble for a new home.
By Kaitlyn Tiffany
On Monday, Tumblr CEO Jeff D'Onofrio announced in a post on the staff
blog that explicit visual content will be banned from the site
starting on December 17. That means no more sex acts, no more nudity,
and no more "female-presenting nipples," whatever that means. The move
comes after the Tumblr app was removed from the App Store in late
November, due to the presence of child pornography on a number of
private blogs.

Subject: Verizon/AOL helped advertisers track kids online, must now
pay $5M fine
Verizon-owned AOL helped advertisers track children online in order to
serve targeted ads, in violation of a federal children's privacy law,
and has agreed to pay a fine of $4.95 million, New York Attorney
General Barbara Underwood announced today.
"The Attorney General's Office found that AOL conducted billions of
auctions for ad space on hundreds of websites the company knew were
directed to children under the age of 13," Underwood's announcement
said. "Through these auctions, AOL collected, used, and disclosed
personal information from the websites' users in violation of COPPA
[Children's Online Privacy Protection Act], enabling advertisers to
track and serve targeted ads to young children."

Just hoping for an update has anyone found a source for either this
software or someone that can provide the programming (even for a fee?)
