Subject: Missouri: Internet outage affects Jefferson City customers
The News Tribune office could not be reached by telephone or email for
several hours Thursday morning, apparently because of a CenturyLink
internet service outage, but it now seems to be working again.
Other customers also reported internet outages on social media in the
Jefferson City area, but the company reports service has since been
restored.
A CenturyLink customer representative told News Tribune IT staff that
the outage reportedly originated early Thursday morning when there was
an issue with a network card in the St. Louis area that knocked nearly
all of Missouri and eastern Kansas offline, and that a replacement was
being flown to the location to be installed.

***** Moderator's Note *****
I usually delete obvious sales pitches, but this one is an
exception. Verizon has a monopoly on cell coverage where I live now,
so the thought that T-Mobile might be willing to offer competing
service, even if only via VoIP, is a Good Thing(tm).

These days, the products we use have an annoying way of spying on us -
from inside our cars, our homes, and our offices. That smartphone game
you play in the waiting room at the doctor's office, the mobile app
that gives you a weather forecast, the photo you share with online
friends - all have the ability to reveal intimate details about your

Subject: Cable industry fights plan to require robocall-detection
technology
NCTA opposes strict deadline on rollout of SHAKEN/STIR Caller ID
authentication.
By Jon Brodkin
The cable industry is fighting an attempt to require deployment of
robocall-detection technology.
Some phone providers have already begun deploying the technology in
question, which is called SHAKEN/STIR. The technology authenticates
callers with digital certificates to prevent spoofing of Caller ID
numbers. But the lobby group that represents Comcast, Charter, and
other cable companies wants to make sure the Federal Communications
Commission doesn't impose any deadlines on the rollout.
