Subject: Ex-FCC commissioner protests outside FCC HQ to protect
Lifeline service
By Mark Pattison
WASHINGTON (CNS) - Gloria Tristani, who served for four years on the
Federal Communications Commission, spent part of her day Sept. 26
protesting outside FCC headquarters in Washington - as the current
commissioners were meeting.
She was there to demonstrate against potential drastic cuts to the
FCC's "Lifeline" program, which was put in place 12 years before
Tristani began her 1997-2001 tenure at the FCC.

Subject: Disabled man hired by Verizon says company fired him years later - for having disability
By Matt Gray
Thomas McDonald was 16 years old in 1971 when a car accident left him
a paraplegic.
He has remained in a wheelchair ever since, but his disability never
stopped him from working. He worked in customer service and sales for
a limousine company for 15 years before landing a position with
Verizon Communications in 1999.

Subject: Public Safety Criticizes Wireless Carriers' Z-Axis 9-1-1
Indoor Location Proposal
By Sandra Wendelken
Public-safety groups took wireless carriers to task in filings with
the FCC regarding 9-1-1 location technology, saying a CTIA proposal is
"unacceptable" and accusing carriers of trying to dilute the
definition of dispatchable location.
CTIA, an association representing U.S. wireless carriers, said last
month in a report that testing supported a Z-axis metric of only =C3=82=C2=
=B15
meters for 80 percent of fixes, yet added that the FCC should not
adopt any metric at this time.

Subject: Entire broadband industry sues California to stop net neutrality law
Top broadband lobby groups sue California, claim net neutrality law is
illegal.
By Jon Brodkin
Four lobby groups representing the broadband industry today sued
California to stop the state's new net neutrality law.
The lawsuit was filed in US District Court for the Eastern District of
California by mobile industry lobby CTIA, cable industry lobby NCTA,
telco lobby USTelecom, and the American Cable Association, which
represents small and mid-size cable companies. Together, these four
lobby groups represent all the biggest mobile and home Internet
providers in the US and hundreds of smaller ISPs. Comcast, Charter,
AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile US, Sprint, Cox, Frontier, and CenturyLink are
among the groups' members.
