Makes Available CenturyLink Project Draft Compatibility Determination
for Establishing Utility Right-of-Way for Public Review Refuge Manager
Scott Lanier announced today the DRAFT COMPATIBILITY DETERMINATION for
the CenturyLink Request for establishing a Right-of-Way for their
fiber optic cable for public review and comment until September 3, 2021.
The proposed utility corridor relocation will be conducted on Pea
Island National Wildlife Refuge. Comments are being sought on the
benefits and impacts from amending the existing utility
right-of-way. Federal wildlife refuges are required by law to
determine the compatibility of any proposed non-wildlife dependent use
with the mission of the national wildlife refuge system and the
purpose for which a particular refuge was established. The mission of
Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge is to protect migratory birds and
other native wildlife and their breeding grounds and habitat for the
benefit of the American people," stated Lanier. He added,"We want the
community to be informed about the work being proposed and to have an
opportunity to weigh in on the pros and cons of that work."
If you wish to review the Draft Compatibility Determination, copies
are available at the Dare County Public Library in Manteo and National
Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center on Roanoke Island and at the Pea
Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and on the web site:

Subject: Colorado Attorney General to send checks to more than
200,000 Colorado consumers from CenturyLink settlement
July 29, 2021 (DENVER) - More than 200,000 Coloradans will soon
receive checks in the mail from a 2019 settlement that the Colorado
attorney general's office reached with CenturyLink because the company
deceptively overcharged consumers for services.
An investigation by the consumer protection division in the Colorado
Department of Law uncovered evidence dating back to 2014 that
CenturyLink unfairly and deceptively charged hidden fees, falsely
advertised guaranteed locked prices, and failed to provide discounts
and refunds it promised to consumers who signed up for internet,
television, and telephone services in Colorado. As part of a
settlement with the state, CenturyLink refunded $1.7 million directly
to consumers for overbilling errors before March 31, 2020.

Subject: Telecommunications Companies Reporting to the SCC as of
1/1/2021
The list linked below, which was published by the Virginia State
Corporation Commission, shows the amazingly large number of company
names and other legal entities under which the 'subsidiaries' of the
various brand-name companies operate. It illustrates the difficulties
that reporters like me run into while trying to find newsworthly
stories about the well-known names: most of their "bad" news is
officiailly reported under the less well known names of their
subsidiaries.
