Subject: Net Neutrality Still Unresolved After 11 Year of Blogging
About It
by Peter Vogel
On August 1, 2008 I posted my first blog about Net Neutrality entitled
"Proposed Net Neutrality Bill in the US Congress," and as of today
Net Neutrality is still a hotly contested federal and state issue.
ZDNet.com reported that "When the phrase was coined, it was in the
context of a debate in the US Congress over the idea of a possible
nationwide license for broadband service providers." ZDNet.com's July
18, 2019 article entitled "Does net neutrality still matter in our
post-web world?" includes a different vision that the "public
Internet" has been replaced by "the digital marketplace" now that we
all rely on cell phones and tablets, and poses this question:
...why are we trying to resuscitate a framework from another era?

Subject: Midwest CWA members ratify four-year agreement
This week, CWA members in the Midwest and at AT&T's national Legacy T
unit voted to ratify four-year agreements covering 14,000 workers. The
new agreements provide wage increases of 10.5% over the life of the
contracts, cap health care costs, and preserve jobs.
"This was a long, hard fight," said CWA District 4 Vice President
Linda L. Hinton. "Thanks to the persistence of our bargaining team,
the resilience of our members, and engagement from legislators and
allies we won a contract that helps protect jobs and strengthen our
communities."

Historical notes:
In 1947, Canada introduced mobile telephone service. The
following newspaper articles describes an early use.
In all of these, you may scroll through the rest of the publication.

Here's a feature illustrated article from Ottawa in 1947: Note
they have an operator whose job it is to constantly adjust the
sound volume.

In 1954 Bell Canada advertised the service (lower right).
