Subject: Canada: CRTC Mandates Implementation Of STIR/SHAKEN By All
Telecommunications Service Providers
by Leslie J. Milton
In a decision issued in April of this year, the Canadian
Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission ("CRTC") required
all telecommunications service providers ("TSPs") in Canada to
implement STIR/SHAKEN to authentic and validate IP-based calls
effective 30 November 2021.
STIR/SHAKEN is a set of protocols and procedures that are intended to
reduce caller identification ("ID") spoofing. Caller ID spoofing
occurs when callers deliberately falsify (or spoof) their caller
ID. This conduct undermines the ability of call recipients to screen
out nuisance calls.

Subject: What's New In 5G - August 2021
by Russell H. Fox (Washington, DC) , Scott Thompson (Washington, DC),

The next-generation of wireless technologies - known as 5G - is here.
Not only is it expected to offer network speeds that are up to 100
times faster than 4G LTE and reduce latency to nearly zero, it will
allow networks to handle 100 times the number of connected devices,
revolutionizing business and consumer connectivity and enabling the
"Internet of Things." Leading policymakers - federal regulators and
legislators - are making it a top priority to ensure that the wireless
industry has the tools it needs to maintain U.S. leadership in
commercial 5G deployments. This blog provides monthly updates on FCC
actions and Congressional efforts to win the race to 5G.

Subject: Camden's First Congregational Church restores steeple and
spire
Penobscot Bay Pilot - Thu, 08/05/2021
CAMDEN - The industrious activity around the First Congregational
Church, UCC, of Camden at 55 Elm Street, represents the beginning of
the Church's project to restore the exterior of its steeple and spire,
which have started to show exterior damage from the elements.
The work requires intricate staging to reach the steeple and spire,
and it will be done by Taylor-Made Builders, Inc. They redid the
steeple at the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, also in Camden, several
years ago.
