Subject: OR: Centurlink outage on December 19
CenturyLink had an outage, phone and internet, in our area on
Dec. 19. Fortunately, they hustled to repaired it quickly, even though
it was a Sunday and we were in the midst of a big wind and
rainstorm. Thank you for the commitment to good customer service,
CenturyLink.

Subject: NC can no longer wait for broadband solutions
By Guest Columnist Paul Meyer
Roughly a year ago now, I spoke to the members of Gov. Roy Cooper's
broadband task force and noted how, from the viewpoint of anyone
looking objectively at the issue of broadband access, the public-
private partnership model advocated by NCLM is a "no-brainer."

Subject: FCC orders phone companies to help trace illegal
robocallers
It's now also putting a limit on non-telemarketing robocalls.
By Mariella Moon
The FCC has been adopting more and more measures to combat robocalls,
and the latest set of rules it's implementing include limiting even
non-telemarketing calls made to residential phones. Non-commercial,
commercial and nonprofit organizations can now only make up to three
calls per residential number within 30 days and are required to allow
recipients to opt out. The FCC didn't have a limit for non-telemar-
keting calls before this change. In addition, the commission has
introduced new rules for voice service providers, which are now
required to respond to traceback requests for illegal call sources
from the commission and from law enforcement.

The question, of course, is whether "residential phones" includes cell
phones.
