Subject: CenturyLink Outage in Foley, Baldwin County, Alabama
According to the 'istheservicedown" site, Centurylink is having
problems in Foley, Alabama.
https://istheservicedown.com/problems/centurylink/4062644-foley-baldwin-county-alabama-united-states
I called the city hall in Foley, and spoke to
Ms. Brenda Shambo, an Administrative Assistant.
Ms. Shambo told me that there'd been a lightning storm, and confirmed
that they had been affected:
"They knocked us out for about twenty minutes, and then it came back
up, probably on backup generator"
I asked Ms. Shambo if the 911 PSAP had been affected, and she told me it had
not.

Would someone please explain how this is still being processed, and
why there has been so long a delay?

Subject: VOIP Issue Resolution.
Today, I received a call from Bill Horne on my new Hamshack Hotline (HH)
number.
It was the first incoming call I have received on that service. The audio
quality was excellent.
Some of you know that I have been sorting out VOIP issues on my home network.
At long last, I believe I have solved them. But I am not sure exactly which
action(s) I took that corrected the issue.
I upgraded my 3.0 cablemodem to a 3.1. I replaced my ATA with two Grandstream
GXP2135 phones (VOIP Supply had a great price on them). I even had Cisco TAC
fine tune my business class router for VOIP.
Even after I did all of that, the issue persisted. I disconnected my ATA from
my home network. Then I did a factory reset on my GXP2135s and programmed
them up again.
FYI, I had previously done a factory reset on the ATA. It cleared the audio
quality issues. But there were still delays between when the called party
answered and when they could hear me. On outgoing calls, the called party
experienced the same issue. That was the remaining issue.
Now, everything seems good. But, I am not sure which item(s) were the actual
cure.
I have Callcentric on account one of each of my GXP2135s. I have Hamshack
Hotline on both phones of account four. I even set each service so I had a
different ring for each of the two services.
So when Bill called today, I realized immediately that it was my first
incoming HH call by the distinctive ring. I answered and we had a good, long
conversation.
He asked me to write a blurb about how I arrived at my VOIP quality
resolution. So, here it is.
Thanks to Bill for telling me about Hamshack Hotline
(https://www.hamshackhotline.com).
If you are a licensed amateur radio operator, you should definitely check this
service (HH) out. You can't get a better price than when it is for free!
And even voicemail is included.
