Subject: Odin, MN residents join chorus of Frontier complaints
By Brian Arola
ODIN - Nancy Olson is dissatisfied with her internet service and plans
to show Frontier Communications she's not alone.
Tired of slow to nonexistent internet at her home north of Odin, Olson
and other frustrated locals hope to make the hour drive to Slayton in
September for a public hearing about the communications provider.

Subject: Battle of the internet titans
By Dalton Delan
Once upon a time, when Al Gore invented it, the internet was a rutted
dirt road that got you where you wanted to go as long as you knew DOS
(disk operating system). Now you pay extra for "high speed" access,
and a handful of major players essentially control the toll roads at
rush hour - which is to say, anytime and every time.
This summer, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai put the final stake in the heart of
the Old West era of the internet when he pushed through a repeal of
the "net neutrality" regulations put in place under President
Obama. Without this odd and misunderstood phrase, declaring a sort of
Zurich of the Internet, broadband providers could - in theory at least
- prioritize for pay one company's signal over another's. The digital
equivalent of HOV lanes could divide the Prius and Tesla drivers from
the rest of us gas-guzzlers.

Digibyte (DGB) - AT&T sim-jacking highlights a strong use-case for Digi-ID
By Nick Mwenda
Digibyte (DGB: Hackers are getting bolder by the day, and crypto
investors are increasingly becoming a huge target of attacks. This is
quite understandable considering the immense amounts of wealth that
cryptos have generated in the last few years. The latest attack was
targeted at crypto entrepreneur Michael Terpin who lost over $23
million in a sim jacking case.
While this loss is tragic, it also exposes the vulnerability of
commonly used security features such as SMS 2-FA. Clearly, there is a
need for companies and individuals to move to more advanced and
tamper-proof security technologies. One such technology is Digi-ID, an
open-source identification system developed by Digibyte.

If you have bought a new cell phone recently, you will see that the
technology of the newest smart phones is far more advanced than in the
past, and have features on them that most people don't understand or
use.
When I conduct employee education for companies on data privacy and
security, I devote a portion of the session to teaching employees
about their smart phones because most people don't understand even the
basic components of their phones, let alone how to activate
appropriate privacy or security settings on them.

Castro: Local CenturyLink customers still living in the last century
By Melissa Castro
CenturyLink, the internet provider of last resort for many in the
rural area, proclaims on its website, "We believe the right technology
makes our lives simpler and brings people closer."
Judging from recent customer complaints sent to this newspaper and
posted on Twitter, their customers' lives have been anything
but simple.

Subject: CenturyLink: We won't buy spectrum at auction
By Mike Dano
CenturyLink continues to investigate how it might deploy wireless
technology to reach customers more easily in rural areas, but don't
expect the company to purchase significant chunks of spectrum to do
so.
"If you look at unlicensed spectrum in the rural, it's not as much of
a problem as unlicensed spectrum in an urban market," said CEO Jeff
Storey during CenturyLink's recent quarterly conference call with
analysts, according to a Seeking Alpha transcript of the event. "I
don't see us going out and being a major buyer of spectrum in
wireless, but we're open to how do we best serve our customers and
what things make sense."
