Subject: Unique ID may follow some Verizon Wireless customers online Message-ID: <20141028063423.GA3749@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Verizon Wireless has been subtly altering the web traffic of its wireless customers for the past two years, inserting a string of about 50 letters, numbers, and characters into data flowing between these customers and the websites they visit. The company - one [of] the country's largest wireless carriers, providing cell phone service for about 123 million subscribers - calls this a Unique Identifier Header, or UIDH. It's a kind of short-term serial number that advertisers can use to identify you on the web, and it's the lynchpin of the company's internet advertising program. Subject: CWA and Centurylink reach agreement on lead safety Message-ID: <20141028070328.GA3939@telecom.csail.mit.edu> A landmark program to help protect telecom workers from unsafe levels of lead exposure has been expanded to cover all CenturyLink techs in every CWA district under an agreement reached by District 7, CWA's Occupational Safety and Health Department, and CenturyLink. The training and medical testing program now will cover the company's 3,550 techs who work with lead-sheathed cable and may face a serious health risk. CWA members employed as cable splicers, linemen, air pressure technicians, and other outside plant technicians sometime work with lead-encased telecommunications cables. Subject: FTC sues ATT over supposed 'unlimited" data Message-ID: <Pine.NEB.4.64.1410281328280.6254@panix5.panix.com> FTC press release] "The Federal Trade Commission filed a federal court complaint against AT&T Mobility, LLC, charging that the company has misled millions of its smartphone customers by charging them for "unlimited" data plans while reducing their data speeds, in some cases by nearly 90 percent.
