Subject: AT&T gives investors and gov't wildly different takes on
need for fiber Internet
AT&T to investors: Fiber is the best! AT&T to gov't: Don't give rural people
fiber!
By Jon Brodkin
AT&T says fiber Internet is a "superior" technology that is built for
today and the future because of its ability to deliver symmetrical
upload and download speeds of 1Gbps and higher. AT&T also says that
"there is no compelling evidence" to support the deployment of fiber
across the US and that rural people should be satisfied with nonfiber
Internet access that provides only 10Mbps upload speeds.

I must lead a very sheltered life: I didn't see any stories on the
national news programs about an AT&T outage /anywhere/ in June, let
alone in a major city like Detroit.

Subject: Amid rent dispute, county defers action on AT&T request for
2nd cell tower
By Allison Brophy Champion
The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors has deferred action for 90
days on a request from AT&T to install a 195-foot, unlighted monopole
telecommunications tower on General Winder Road south of town.
It would be located in a rural area near Cedar Mountain Battlefield
that has another cell tower a short walk away.

IANALB ISTM a county government shouldn't be involved with rent disputes
between commercial firms. My 2¢.
