Subject: Verizon: Beware Unknown Unknowns
Chris Novak, director of the Verizon Enterprise Solutions Risk Team,
explains that enterprises who don't conduct a thorough audit of their
assets often leave some things unprotected because they don't know
they exist. Many times these unprotected assets are part of corporate
M&A activity but left unshielded they can become a hacker's
playground, he tells Light Reading at its Service Provider &
Enterprise Security Strategies event.

Subject: Verizon's Bootloader Unlock Method for Pixel to be Patched
This Week
Hacking into the new Pixel and Pixel XL phones from Google has
presented a new challenge to the community developers. We knew it
would be this way even before they were officially launched because of
the changes to system that Google undertook. We generally see things
like root access and TWRP support released for a Google phone before
they're available to the public, but it took a bit longer this
time around.
As Chainfire and Dees_Troy were working on their projects for the
Pixel phones, XDA Senior Recognized Developers beaups and jcase
announced they figured out a way to unlock the bootloader of the
Verizon Wireless and EE Pixel smartphones. They were even nice enough
to agree to release their unlock method to the community entirely for
free, and a couple of days later, dePixel8 was made available to the
public.

I have one of these things, never used ever yet. The box looks like crap but
the artifact is intact with all of its manuals/userguides and diskettes.

Subject: ITU approves new energy-efficiency standard
SHENZEN, CHINA -- Recently, the Site Energy Efficiency (SEE) proposed
by Huawei has been approved by the International Telecom Union (ITU),
and ITU-T L.1350: Energy Efficiency Metrics of Base Station Site has
officially become the international standard for the field of telecom
energy. After two years of serious debates and repeated demonstration,
the standard has finally been established. The standard will provide
telecom and tower operators with a sound basis for selecting highly
efficiently integrated solutions for their sites, better evaluate the
energy efficiency of their existing networks, formulate more effective
energy efficiency improvement plans, and carry out energy conservation
and emission reduction.
With the continuous development of digitization and the rapid growth
of the telecom services, the ICT industry is under more and more
pressure to increase revenues and reduce energy consumption. Lowering
energy costs is one of the most important measures for operators to
sustain or increase profits.
