Subject: N.J. officials say Verizon is treating them like 'country
bumpkins'
By Spencer Kent | For NJ.com
Officials are outraged by a letter that Verizon New Jersey recently
sent to the state blasting a petition filed by a group of South Jersey
towns last year alleging the telecom company has neglected to maintain
their copper landline infrastructure and adequately address
service-quality issues.
"Verizon's response is insulting and dismissive," said Hopewell
Township Committeeman Greg Facemyer in a statement. "They continue to
treat South Jersey like a bunch of country bumpkins."

Subject: What We Know About the Incentive Auction
By Trip Ericson, Rabitears, January 28 2016
As many of you know, the FCC's Incentive Auction application window closed on
Tuesday, January 12. This means that stations are now under a "quiet period"
during which they cannot discuss bids or bidding strategy. This also means
that almost any information that is going to be made public before the process
is complete is probably already public now. As a service to those who are
interested, I've attempted to compile as much information as I can find about
who is in and who is out.
Please note that while I am officially an FCC employee, I have no access to
any inside information on this subject, and even if I did, I could not share
it. All data below was compiled entirely in my personal time and capacity, is
in no way intended to reflect the views of the FCC or any of its
Commissioners. It is either based on public information which is linked, or is
strictly my own speculation based on years of industry-watching.

CenturyLink, ILEC industry groups say FCC's broadband definition is a
moving target
By Sean Buckley
CenturyLink and ILEC industry trade groups wasted no time in speaking
out against the FCC's new 2016 broadband progress report, saying that
it does not take into account the amount of money service providers
are spending to extend broadband services to more communities.
CenturyLink, which is in the process of rolling out 1 Gbps FTTP to
businesses and consumers as well as 10/1 Mbps to rural areas via the
second phase of the FCC's Connect America Fund (CAF-II), makes it
challenging for service providers to comply with the regulator's
standards.

M's Pub fire has attention of Verizon after email from daughter of
restaurant's founder
By Russell Hubbard / World-Herald staff writer
The looming legal tussle surrounding the M's Pub fire has
caught the attention of senior management at the nation's
largest phone company, Verizon Communications.
Verizon was seeking to lease fiber-optic cable in the Old Market from
owner Unite Private Networks before the fire this month.
Underground drilling related to the fiber-optic project led to the
fire, which started after digging ruptured a natural-gas line.
