Subject: AT&T argues being misleading about data plans isn't
misleading because reporters caught them
One of the grand tricks the telecom industry was able to achieve by
getting its henchman, Ajit Pai, into the majority chairman position in
the FCC was to kill net neutrality protections. The most special part
of this was Pai's argument that the FCC did not have the power to
enforce, and should not have the power to enforce, any regulations on
the telecommunications landscape. Of course, this was something that
Pai then argued against when states like California and local
governments began taking the argument to its logical conclusion and
moving towards creating consumer protections for their citizens. It
has also meant that any move Pai and his worthless FCC have made is
merely a suggestion that most internet service providers (ISP) can
ignore depending on how they're feeling.

Subject: If Thumbs Are Required, It's Not An Autodialer
by Terri J. Seligman
The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) prohibits any person from
calling or text messaging someone on a wireless phone using an
automatic telephone dialing system (an "autodialer") or an artificial
or prerecorded voice (a "robocall") unless the call is an emergency or
the person has the called party's prior express consent. The TCPA
defines an autodialer as "equipment which has the capacity
- (A)to store or produce telephone numbers to be called, using a
random or sequential number generator; and
- (B) to dial such numbers."

Subject: Why your privacy could be threatened by a bill to
protect children
Backers of the EARN IT Act focus on protecting children from being
exploited, but security experts say the bill actually chips away at
your encrypted messages.
By Alfred Ng
Depending on who you ask, the EARN IT Act could either destroy the
fundamental values of an open internet or protect children from being
sexually exploited online. The Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect
of Interactive Technologies Act, which requires tech companies to meet
safety requirements for children online before obtaining immunity from
lawsuits, had its first public hearing on March 11.
