Subject: CWA Members Build Skills to Advocate for Broadband Buildout
and Good Jobs
Last week, a group of CWA members participated in a multi-day "Build
Broadband Better" training program to learn how to increase public
support for proposals to fund broadband buildout.
The group discussed how public education, lobbying, and media
attention can help ensure that high speed internet connections are
built where they are most needed, that corporations are held
accountable for providing high quality service, and that the funds
support good, union jobs in our communities.

Subject: Essential Workers are Essential to Our Democracy
June 10, 2021
Supporters of the For the People Act rallied on the steps of the
Supreme Court yesterday to speak out about the necessity of passing
the bill in order to realize the promise of our democracy.
The legislation, which has passed the House of Representatives and
awaits action in the Senate, will get big money out of politics,
ensure our freedom to vote, and guarantee that congressional districts
are drawn to give fair representation for all.

Subject: New Florida TCPA Legislation Passed

The Florida State Legislature has unanimously passed CS/SB 1120 (the
"Bill"). Telemarketing businesses will notice many similarities
between the Bill and the Federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act
("TCPA"). Most notably is the creation of a private right of
action. If signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis, the Bill will go
into effect on July 1, 2021, significantly updating both the Florida
Telemarketing Act and the Florida Do Not Call Act to create what would
be the equivalent of a Florida TCPA. Telemarketers should be mindful
of the updates contained in the Bill and take appropriate measures to
comply with its provisions should it pass into law.
