Subject: Cell Phone in Canada

My daughter has decided to go to graduate school in Canada. Since she'll be
there a lot more than here (Oregon), we need to figure out what to do about her
cell phone.
She's currently a 2nd line on my Verizon account. We both have HTC Incredible
phones.
It would be nice if there was some way she could use her existing phone,
especially if it was possible to use it in both locations since she'll be home
for things like summer and christmas breaks.
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

John, while the denizens of c.d.telecom may well provide the advice you
seek, I'd urge asking also in alt.cellular.verizon. Some heavy travelers
there have unique GoogleVoice/MagicJack/CallForwardService tricks up their
sleeves they're likely to be willing to share with you.

Verizon has Nationwide + Canada plans which (according to their web
site) include both calling to Canada and unlimited roaming in Canada.
Give VZW a call and see if that's really true.
Since your phones are CDMA, the only carrier in Canada that supports it is
Bell. I suppose another possibility would be for her to bring the phone
into a Bell store there and see if they'll set up a plan on it, although
Canadian plans for roaming in the US tend to be pretty pricey.

Is a bit of levity in order in these hallowed halls these days?
After a busy day, a commuter settled down in her seat for a snooze on the
train ride home to Mt. Kisco from downtown Manhattan.
The guy sitting next to her pulled out his cell phone and started talking
in a loud voice: "Hi sweetheart, it's Eric. I'm on the train -- yes, I
know, it's the six thirty, not the four thirty, but I had a long meeting --
no, honey, not with that floozie from the accounts office, with the boss.
No sweetheart, you're the only one in my life -- yes, I'm sure, cross my
heart," etc., etc.
Fifteen minutes later he was still talking loudly, so the young woman
sitting next to him, unable to pull off that little snooze, retaliated with
a stage whisper loud enough to carry through to the other end of the cell
phone conversation:
"Hey, Eric, sweetie, turn off that stupid phone and come back to bed!"
S'pose Eric thinks twice now before using his cellphone in public any more?
