We have the heaviest concentration of lawyers on Earth - one for every five-hundred Americans; three times as many as are in England, four times as many as are in West Germany, twenty-one times as many as there are in Japan. We have more litigation, but I am not sure that we have more justice. |

Subject: Cellphone Ordinance Puts Berkeley at Forefront of Radiation Debate Message-ID: <87ED56B4-585E-4F05-9ECD-72A04D05811E@roscom.com> A city measure requiring retailers to warn cellphone customers about radiation exposure is on hold pending a lawsuit from the wireless industry. http://goo.gl/lbShzf ***** Moderator's Note ***** Californication-department: the city council of Berserkeley, ever hungry for attention and free ink, has once again illustrated that there's no such thing as bad publicity. Unless, of course, the Federal bureaucrats - who can spot a cut-rate competitor a mile away - decide to slap down the local yokels. Bill Horne Moderator |

Subject: As strike looms, new app lets Verizon monitor union workers Message-ID: <mou76n$85f$1@dont-email.me> WASHINGTON - Continuing to prepare for a potential strike, Verizon Communications has been distributing an app to its non-union employees that will allow them to document bad behavior by union workers in the event of a work stoppage. The app is designed to allow the user to take a geotagged photo documenting the time and location of the photo, and can then write a brief incident report before forwarding the whole thing to Verizon corporate security, which will maintain a database of such reports. http://goo.gl/ILI5xn -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) |

Subject: FCC approves AT&T, DirecTV deal, with conditions Message-ID: <7ac29e17-b657-457d-b397-180f9c4e79e2@googlegroups.com> By Jacob Pramukm CNBC, July 24, 2015 The Federal Communications Commission on Friday approved AT&T's $48.5 billion purchase of DirecTV, which will create a telecom behemoth as consolidation stirs across the industry. The move will combine the nation's second-largest wireless carrier with its biggest satellite television provider. The Justice Department already cleared the deal, which will create a company with about 26 million cable and satellite subscribers. The purchase previously came under scrutiny for possibly reducing competition, but the FCC determined it is "in the public interest." Under conditions of the agreement, AT&T-DirecTV will be required to expand high-speed fiber optic broadband access to 12.5 million customer locations and offer discounts to low-income consumers. "The conditions imposed by the commission address potential harms presented by the combination of AT&T, one of the nation's largest telephone and Internet service providers, and DirecTV, the nation's largest satellite video provider," the agency said in a statement. http://www.cnbc.com/2015/07/24/fcc-approves-of-att-directv-deal-with-conditions.html Neal McLain |

The group of state attorneys recently sent a letter to AT&T, CenturyLink, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon asking them to implement technology to stop robocalls to consumers. http://goo.gl/tRvB4F -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) |
