Cellphone Alerts Used in New York to Search for Bombing Suspect
It is believed to be the first such deployment of the nation's
Wireless Emergency Alerts system: An electronic wanted poster was sent
out for Ahmad Khan Rahami, who was wanted in the weekend attack.

Specifically Paoli.
Recently got the note from Verizon about dinging me $2.80 per month if
I don't buy a new router from them.
FIOS is nice....but is it *that* nice?.... My base phone bill is up to
a little over $100/month from the sixty-some it was a few years ago.
Anybody in this area got an alternative that is working for them?
I'm thinking ditch FIOS and move my incoming phone service to the VOIP
provider that I already use for outgoing.
??

Err, no. They're a method of installing surveillance equipment all
over the city so as to track everyone's movements, both by monitoring
cell/smart phones in their pockets and.. by plenty, make that PLENTY,
of attached video cameras.
(Most people who watch this stuff, i.e. a hefty chunk of
c.d.t. readers, figured out the first part. The video cameras and
other sensors is something that wasn't so obvious)
