In each generation, with toil and tears, we have had to earn our heritage again. If we fail now, we shall have forgotten in abundance what we learned in hardship: that democracy rests on faith, that freedom asks more than it gives, and that the judgment of God is harshest on those who are most favored. If we succeed, it will not be because of what we have, but it will be because of what we are; not because of what we own, but, rather because of what we believe. For we are a nation of believers. Underneath the clamor of building and the rush of our day's pursuits, we are believers in justice and liberty and union, and in our own Union. We believe that every man must someday be free. And we believe in ourselves.
Lyndon B. Johnson

Subject: Verizon Not Installing FiOS for 25 Percent of NYers Who Want It: Audit Message-ID: <moer5i$sbo$2@dont-email.me> A city audit has found that over a quarter of New Yorkers who ask for high-speed Internet from Verizon FiOS didn't get it, and officials are vowing to hold the company accountable. Verizon failed to honor a 2008 contract it signed with the city promising high speeds to anyone who asked within a year, according to Maya Wiley, counsel to the mayor. http://goo.gl/vsrKbV -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly)

Subject: AT&T Reports Internet Service Restored in California Message-ID: <moes7r$vpl$1@dont-email.me> Tracey Petersen and B.J. Hansen, MML News Team Update 7/15/2015 10:00 p.m. PDT: AT&T has restored all internet services to customers nearly 22 hours after vandals cut into one of its main fiber optic lines Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. in San Joaquin County. The vandals knocking out service to thousands of homes and businesses throughout the Central Valley and Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties. AT&T released this statement around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday announcing all customers’ services had been restored: “Service has been restored following last night’s vandalism in the Stockton area. Technicians worked as quickly as possible to resolve the issue and all services are currently running normally. We continue to cooperate with local law enforcement to find those responsible. Vandalism is a serious matter that affects public safety and the community at large.” http://goo.gl/kuWNEy -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly)

Subject: AT&T Takes Distracted Driving Effort To Airwaves Message-ID: <moersf$ut1$1@dont-email.me> AT&T is taking its “It can wait” anti-distracted-driving campaign to the airwaves this summer with a jarring Internet film and television commercials depicting the disastrous results that can occur when checking one’s phone while behind the wheel. The television campaign, from agency BBDO, uses slow-motion cinematography to depict the aftermath of what happens when a driver takes his or her eyes off the road. http://goo.gl/JEOso1 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly)

Subject: Politicians and Union Leaders Take Aim at Verizon Message-ID: <moereo$tsv$1@dont-email.me> A group of elected officials joined members of the Communication Workers of America union to call on the Public Service Commission, the board that oversees the telecommunications industry, to conduct a sweeping investigation of the impact of its past deregulation—but took special aim Verizon, the telecommunications giant. The ostensible purpose of the rally was to urge the PSC—a four-member panel whose commissioners the governor picks and the State Senate approves—to use an upcoming set of meetings to conduct an extensive investigation into the effects of lifting penalties for poor customer service on telephone landlines and other reductions in government intervention. But most of the event singled out the company Verizon, which has been the target of increasing criticism. http://goo.gl/8HGJUj -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly)

Subject: Electrical workers at Verizon in RI, Mass. authorize strike Message-ID: <moer0t$sbo$1@dont-email.me> BOSTON (AP) — Union officials say a group of Verizon employees in Massachusetts and Rhode Island have voted to authorize a strike if union negotiators determine one is necessary after their contract expires Aug. 1. Leaders of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers said Friday that union members in the two states voted overwhelming in favor of authorizing a strike. Similar votes are planned over the next 10 days by Verizon workers in the Communication Workers of America union. http://goo.gl/5m6IOM -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly)

Subject: Centurylink asks to abandon TDM lines Message-ID: <moet2o$28v$1@dont-email.me> As CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) moves forward with its transition from legacy TDM, the telco has asked the FCC in a new filing to grant requests to discontinue TDM voice services in areas where consumers have alternative services available. These alternatives could include a mix of VoIP services from an over-the-top provider such as Ooma or Vonage, or a 3G or 4G service from a wireless operator. http://goo.gl/HGkiBr -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly)

Subject: Centurylink faces fine for 911 outage in Washington state Message-ID: <moesoe$1db$1@dont-email.me> CenturyLink is facing $2.9 million in penalties for its responsibility in a statewide 911 system outage earlier this year. The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) began an investigation after a statewide 911 outage severely disrupted emergency services for six hours, beginning at midnight on April 9 and continuing into the morning of April 10, 2014. All 6.9 million people living in Washington lost 911 service during the outage, which affected 5,840 911 calls placed from landline, wireless and Internet-based telephones. http://goo.gl/d46OeS -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly)
