Subject: AT&T Makes It Harder To Cancel Home Internet & Phone
by Luke Bouma
Earlier this month Spectrum made it harder to cancel home
internet. Now AT&T is doing the same as it has started to notify
customers that they are changing their cancellation policy for
internet customers. In the past if you canceled mid-month and did not
have a contract you could get a refund for the rest of the month you
did not use. Now AT&T is no longer offering pro rata (aka prorated)
credits for unused services when you canceled.
This means if you cancel in the first week of your new bill AT&T gets
to keep your full payment even if you only used a few days.

Subject: Huawei Is a Target as Trump Moves to Ban Foreign Telecom
Gear
The administration also announced that it had placed the company on a
list of firms prevented from buying American parts and technologies
without seeking approval.
By Cecilia Kang and David E. Sanger
WASHINGTON - President Trump moved on Wednesday to ban American
telecommunications firms from installing foreign-made equipment that
could pose a threat to national security, White House officials said,
stepping up a battle against China by effectively barring sales by
Huawei, the country's leading networking company.
Mr. Trump issued an executive order instructing the commerce
secretary, Wilbur Ross, to ban transactions "posing an unacceptable
risk" but did not single out any nation or company. The action has
long been expected and is the latest salvo in the administration's
economic and security battle with China. It is also the most extreme
move in the Trump administration's fight against China's tech sector.

robocalls by default
The move comes a month after robocallers dialed Americans nearly 5 billion
times, according to one industry estimate.
