Subject: Touch Tone fourth-column transaction application

In the 1970s the Bell System developed a Transaction Telephone and
support network to provide for things like checking account balance
and credit card verification. It developed a series of telephone
sets, networks, message switching, software, and testing
administration facilities to meet this service.

In one article, they make use of the fourth column (a-d) of Touch Tone
buttons not found on normal telephones (but often mentioned for
Autovon service). These keys are used to send special signals.

The telephone sets include a keypad. However, this keypad uses a
different type of switch than found on Western Electric Touch Tone
pads; rather used on calculator keypads.

I'm with the AT&T clerk on this one, for I am confused as to how he could
have a SIM card without a telephone number. What was the objection, that
he didn't want a cell phone number geographiccally assigned to San Jose?
Did T-Mobile sell him a SIM card also assigned to existing telephone number
geographically assigned to Malaysia?
For GSM cell phone users, is one SIM card per telephone number typical?
Is GSM engineered to allow multiple activated SIMs per telephone number?

Don't expect Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK) to follow AT&T Inc.
(NYSE: T) and CableOne and launch a usage-based billing (UBB) model for
broadband services anytime soon.
Speaking at a Barclays Capital conference this morning, Comcast CFO Mike
Angelakis was adamant that UBB models just aren't in the cards at the
moment, and that the MSO is content with its current Internet usage
policy, which keeps "excessive use" in check via a monthly 250-gigabyte cap.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) More than a month after Kansas City, Kan.,
announced it would be the first place to get Google's ultra-fast
broadband service, Kansas City, Mo., leaders declared their city the
envy of the entire world after the search engine giant said it was
expanding the service to their town.
Google announced in March it had picked Kansas City, Kan., as the
inaugural site for its "Fiber for Communities" program, which is
expected to deliver Internet access 100 times faster than broadband
connections offered by telephone and cable companies.
