Co.
By Jason O. Boyd
A CenturyLink outage in Carteret County (NC) is impacting telephone
use Thursday (Oct 19) afternoon, according to the Cartetet County
Sheriff's Office.
Nick Wilson, Public Information Officer with the sheriff's office,
said in an email they have confirmed through CenturyLink about the
outage involving its landlines. He said technicians are working to
resolve the issue and will let everyone know when service is restored.

Although an undated revision to the above article says service has
been restored, I'm publishing this story in hopes we can get some more
information together.
I get the feeling that Centurylink is having a lot of outages, and
even if the problems are small, I'm concerned about the level of
service the ILEC is providing to its customers. Does anyone have more
info on Centurylink's outage reports?

How You Swipe and Hold Your Phone May Be a Critical Clue to Stop Fraudsters
People are creatures of habit. This applies to daily routines, but
also to small details like how they use their phones.
The angle they usually hold their phones as well as how they use the
screen to scroll and swipe is often predictable enough to create
individual profiles of users' behavior. And in this data-driven age,
it's no surprise that companies are doing just that by compiling
dozens of signals related to consumers' phone habits in order to
create so-called behavioral biometrics that prevent fraud.

Subject: AT&T's Earnings Call to Shed Light on Cord Cutting, Status
of Time Warner Deal
The telecom has already warned about declining video subscribers and
recently pushed out the termination date for the Time Warner
deal. Investors will also listen for details about AT&T's video
strategy, the impact of the latest iPhone and other key data points.
by Chris Nolter
Cord cutting and the fate of the Time Warner Inc. deal are top of
investors' minds as AT&T Inc. gets ready to report third-quarter
earnings after the market close Thursday. The damage from hurricanes
and earthquakes and the state of the wireless business amid a sluggish
iPhone upgrade cycle so far are other important topics for the telecom
and pay-TV giant.
Wall Street expects AT&T to report earnings of 74 cents per share off
sales of $40.1 billion on Thursday. The company hosts an investor call
at 4.30 p.m. ET.
