Subject: CWA Statement on House Open Internet Vote
Wednesday, April 10, 2019
Today the House of Representatives voted to make Open Internet
protections the law of the land. CWA believes that we need clear,
enforceable rules to protect a free and open internet for everyone
while promoting job-creating investment in broadband networks. The FCC
must have the authority to enforce rules that prohibit blocking,
throttling, and discriminatory treatment of some websites on the
Internet.

Last year my POTS service went out. When I called Verizon, they said
that they couldn't repair the old copper service, and they'd have to
convert me to fiber. All the units in our condo complex had gotten fiber
drops installed several years ago, but I'd never switched over.
But just as in your case, I got to keep the same Measured Service that
I've been using for decades (I was paying about $22/mo, since I make
very few calls).
However, one side effect of this was that my phone started reporting
Caller ID. But since I didn't have Caller ID enabled on my line,
everything was announced as "unavailable". So I decided to add it to my
service, which nearly doubled the price.

If he had POTS service, he probably didn't have Internet from Verizon in
the first place. I still use Comcast for TV and Internet.

Ajit Pai refuses to investigate Frontier's horrible telecom service
Long outages and bad customer service mar Frontier's government-funded
network.

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai has rejected a
request to have the FCC investigate Frontier Communications' business
practices in Minnesota, despite evidence that the company has failed
to properly maintain its telecom network.
An investigation by the Minnesota Commerce Department already found
that Frontier's network has "frequent and lengthy" phone and Internet
outages, that Frontier has failed to provide refunds or bill credits
to customers even when outages lasted for months, that Frontier is
guilty of frequent billing errors that caused customers to pay for
services they didn't order, and that it has failed to promptly provide
telephone service to all customers who request it. When we wrote about
the investigation in January, Frontier said it "strongly disagrees"
with the findings but did not dispute any of the specific allegations.
