The Trump Administration Will Be Great for Telecom Giants
And terrible for internet users.
By Dan Gillmor
A rule of thumb I follow is to never be surprised when a politician
who vows to do bad things keeps his or her word.
So as the Trump administration unfolds, it comes as no shock that Big
Telecom is about to get pretty much everything it wants over the next
four to eight years - and that the open internet, open technology in
general, consumer welfare, and maybe even free speech are in serious
jeopardy.

FCC rescinds claim that AT&T and Verizon violated net neutrality
Republican Ajit Pai halts Wheeler's net neutrality investigation of
zero-rating.
By Jon Brodkin
The Federal Communications Commission's new Republican leadership has
rescinded a determination that AT&T and Verizon Wireless violated net
neutrality rules with paid data cap exemptions. The FCC also rescinded
several other Wheeler-era reports and actions.

Emails to FBI
A potentially major blow for privacy advocates occurred on Friday when
a U.S. magistrate ruled against Google and ordered it to cooperate
with FBI search warrants demanding access to user emails that are
stored on servers outside of the United States. The case is certain to
spark a fight, because an appeals court ruled in favor of Microsoft in
a similar case recently.

It would have been interesting to hear how all those machines got
infected.

One word on the phone could cost you dearly -
Say yes to an extra piece of cake. Say yes to a friend who needs
help. Say yes to a chance to travel somewhere new. But if you get a
call from an unknown number and a stranger asks if you can hear him,
definitely do not say "yes".

The GPS satellites aren't in geostationary orbit. I don't know why
this annoys me, but it does, and I'm disappointed that the New York
Times doesn't take more care with scientific info.
