property thieves. Guess who's behind this lunacy?

It's not like we needed any more proof the content cartel will 
stop at nothing to achieve its goals, that there is no argument 
too base and no tactic too vile for the champions of copyright 
abuse. But thanks to The Commission on the Theft of American 
Intellectual Property (TCOTAIP), we have it in spades.

Last week, TCOTAIP published its recommendations on what the
U.S. government should do to combat the scourge of piracy. 
The seven-person commission is made up of professional bureau-
crats and former high-tech CEOs, and it's co-chaired by former 
GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman and ex-director of 
national intelligence Dennis C. Blair. Though the report has 
China's counterfeiting and trade-secret thievery in its cross-
hairs, the implications extend easily to any file-sharing, 
copyright-mocking scallywag.

Comcast and Verizon's Phony Free-Speech Claim

Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
D.C. Circuit wrote this week that the First Amendment shields Comcast
Corp. from Congress's authority to ensure the free flow of information
across the basic network connections it provides.

Kavanaugh's assertion accompanied a ruling by the three-judge panel
that reversed a Federal Communications Commission action against
Comcast. Although the other two judges on the court did not endorse
Kavanaugh's First Amendment argument, it will come up again later this
year -- in a case brought against the FCC by Verizon Communications
Inc.

Verizon and AT&T grow fatter in America as mobile prices plunge in Europe

American consumers are sleepwalking into being permanently locked to
ever-rising phone bills from monolithic incumbents. This is exactly
the scenario that the government tried to avoid when it broke AT&T
into seven Baby Bells in 1982. In France, the average mobile bill is
now dropping by $7 a year. In America, the average bills from AT&T and
Verizon Wireless keep rising as operators force consumers into texting
bundles and sneak in new monthly charges. European incumbent operators
are facing a consumer revolt as millions of Europeans switch to cheap
challenger operators every month. American incumbents have no fear;
AT&T and Verizon have locked in 75% of the smartphone market and keep
growing.
