Subject: AT&T's controversial use of the term 5G 'E' even fooled
tech billionaire Marc Benioff
* AT&T has a controversial marketing tactic to promote its wireless
network that fooled tech billionaire Marc Benioff into thinking he
was connected to the latest and greatest in mobile networks - 5G.
* AT&T renamed its 4G LTE Advanced Pro network for "5G E," with the
"E" standing for evolution. It's not real 5G, which promises faster
speeds and responsiveness.
* By marketing LTE Advanced Pro networks as "5G E," AT&T has confused
people and led some to incorrectly believe they're connected to a 5G
network.

driving ban
PHOENIX - Arizona joined the majority of the nation in enacting a ban
against texting and driving on Monday, four months after a Valley
police officer was struck and killed by a man who admitted to texting
behind the wheel.
Gov. Doug Ducey signed House Bill 2318 into law during a ceremony
attended by advocates, law enforcement, lawmakers and the family of
Salt River Officer Clayton Townsend.

Subject: AT&T's 5G E marketing ploy is turning out to be a disaster
AT&T may have just amicably settled a false advertising lawsuit with
Sprint over its "5G Evolution" branding, but the company's apparent
marketing strategy here is proving to be a disaster. Rather than
taking a victory lap for arriving at real 5G faster than its US
competitors - AT&T's actual 5G network currently supports more cities
than Verizon's - the company is still clinging to a meaningless,
confusing logo it refuses to walk away from.
While AT&T has stated plainly that 5G Evolution isn't actually 5G, in
that it doesn't meet the technical or speed standards to be classified
as such, the end goal seems to be tricking its own customers into
thinking they're accessing a next-generation network through pure
obfuscation. The end result: a whole lot of confusion and news
outlets, like The Verge, having to routinely stress that 5G E is a
misleading attempt to gin up hype with no basis in hard data.
