Subject: Letters: How can CenturyLink cut jobs and give out bonuses?
Does anyone besides me remember CenturyLink giving millions of dollars
in bonuses a few months ago? Now they are cutting more than 1,000
jobs! Only a portion of these bonuses would pay the 1,000 workers'
salary for many years.
And doesn't CenturyLink get many tax breaks? Apparently these don't
save jobs, only go in corporate's pockets. Such a shame!

Subject: Trump pledges to help Chinese phonemaker ZTE "get back into
business"
ZTE had said last week that it would cease "major operating
activities" because of the U.S. government's recent trade
restrictions.
President Trump pledged on Sunday to help Chinese telecom giant ZTE
return to business, days after the company said it would cease "major
operating activities" because of the U.S. government's recent trade
restrictions, a dramatic shift in tone for a president who has long
accused China of stealing U.S. jobs.
"President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive
Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast,"
Trump tweeted. "Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has
been instructed to get it done!"

Promises Mean Little for Consumers in T-Mobile-Sprint Deal
LAST WEEK T-MOBILE and Sprint, two of the four nationwide mobile
wireless network operators, agreed to merge in a deal valued at $26.5
billion. Not surprisingly, the companies are making a lot of promises
to gain the support of both the Federal Communications Commission and
the Department of Justice, both of which must approve the merger. But
consumers should not be fooled. The proposition here is simple: This
deal will shrink the market for nationwide mobile wireless service
from four players to three, giving consumers fewer choices and
increasing the likelihood that prices will be higher and service
offerings will be less consumer-friendly.
