Subject: Frontier Communications Declares Bankruptcy; Documents Show
Company Spent Millions to Retain Customers
Frontier Communications filed for bankruptcy reorganization protection
this week with more than $10 billion in debts and departing customers,
despite retention efforts that cost the company more than $5 million a
month.
The company had warned investors it was considering restructuring and
failed to make a timely bond payment to cover a portion of its
debts. Frontier had been in negotiations with debt holders for several
months, attempting to secure a Restructuring Support Agreement that
would reduce debt in return for an equity stake in the company. At
least 75% of unsecured bondholders are reportedly on board with a deal
that would free up money to spend on fiber optic upgrades.

Internet outages around the world reached new record levels last week,
despite relatively strong performance from global networks during the
first weeks of Covid-19 lockdowns.
The data, compiled and published by ThousandEyes, showed UK outages
increased 62% and global outages 11% since week commencing April 13.

Subject: OPNFV evolves and hitches its wagon to Common NFVi Telco
Taskforce
by Mike Robuck
Birthday plans on are hold for the Common NFVi Telco Taskforce (CNTT)
due to the coronavirus shutting down conferences. CNTT got off the
ground almost exactly a year ago at the Open Networking Summit
conference as a means to align the industry around unified network
functions virtualization infrastructure (NFVi) implementations in
order to reduce the friction for onboarding virtual network functions
(VNFs) and, eventually, container network functions (CNFs.)
