Subject: Flood of scam "computer maintenance" calls
I've received a flood of scam telephone calls. They vary,
but in essence say I have to act on my computer maintenance
agreement to avoid a bill or get a refund, and to call a
toll-free number. In some cases they claim to be from
Microsoft.
They all use a rather badly synthesized voice, sometimes
barely understandable.
Needless to say, I just hang up and would never call the
number since toll free lines always get the caller's number.
Here's a question: What carriers are supporting the
toll-free lines? Seems like they could do a better job
of controlling who they deal with.
***** Moderator's Note *****
800 carriers do a very good job of controlling who they deal with:
they only service those with money.

Subject: Verizon's new Just Kids plan is a terrible deal
You're never too young to get hooked or hoodwinked.
By Michael Simon
Anyone with a child under the age of 13 knows how tricky it can be to
limit screen time. Whether we're on a three-hour car ride or in a long
checkout line, the only sure-fire way to keep my kids quiet and calm
is to pass him my iPhone or Galaxy phone to watch a few Youtube vids
or play a round of Fruit Ninja.

Subject: America's Work Force Examines AT&T Layoffs Following Tax
Break
America's Work Force discusses communication giant AT&T, who after
receiving corporate tax cuts, promised they would create 7,000 jobs
for every $1 billion in profit, but has instead laid off 1,200
employees.
Frank Mathews, from the Communication Workers of America District 4,
spoke with America's Work Force on April 9 about AT&T's broken
promise. He said AT&T claimed they needed the tax break because they
were struggling. They the CWA that if they received a tax break, they
would create more jobs. Unfortunately, AT&T got their tax break, but
cut 1,200 jobs and offshored others. Mathews called this a tax scam
since they did not follow through on any of the promises that they
made it appears they will not make an effort to bring back those jobs.
