Subject: Happy New Year!
As the interim moderator while Bill heals, I'd like to wish all of the
readers a happy and healthy (!), new year 2022! The Digest is one of
cyberspace's longest-running lists, going back over four decades. And it
was on Usenet since before that peaked, and is still available there as
comp.dcom.telecom. It has always featured user contributions, and there
are a lot of possible topics to address that fit the overall "telecom",
including Internet infrastructure, VoIP, mobile, etc., topic area. So
feel free to chime in and start or add on to a topic, mailing to
telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org.

Subject: T-Mobile reportedly suffers another, smaller data breach
Following a large breach earlier this year, some T-Mobile customers
appear to have gotten an unwelcome end-of-year surprise.
By
Lori Grunin
T-Mobile has reportedly suffered another data breach, a few months after
a
huge breach in August
The new breach seems to have affected a smaller group of customers, who
received notifications of "unauthorized activity" that consisted of
hackers checking out customer proprietary network information, pulling
off a physical SIM swap, or both, says
a Tuesday post by blog The T-Mo Report.

Subject: TCPA Ruling: Personal Liability Of Defendant's Director
by
Sheila Raftery Wiggins
A New Jersey federal court ruled that a class action plaintiff may
assert a claim against the defendant company's Director and General
Manager ("Manager") for personal liability under the Telephone Consumer
Protection Act, 47 U.S.C. § 227 ("TCPA") .
Defendant is a trading firm that provides training to consumers who want
to become Forex traders. Plaintiff is a New Jersey resident who had a
relationship with Defendant that ended four years ago. Plaintiff filed
this class action lawsuit, asserting that Defendant used telemarketing
to solicit potential consumers for its services, including through the
use of pre-recorded voice messages without first obtaining the
consumer's prior express consent. Plaintiff alleges that he received an
unsolicited phone call on his cell phone that he did not answer which
resulted in Defendant leaving a pre-recorded voice message, allegedly in
violation of the TCPA.

Subject: Delays and disruptions from C-band 5G interference could
cost airlines billions
"Airlines and aviation officials are warning that the resumed rollout of
AT&T and Verizon's new 5G wireless service in January could lead to
widespread flight delays across the US especially in snowstorms and
other low visibility conditions.
As reported by Bloomberg, the officials say that C-band 5G threatens to
interfere with altimeters and other equipment on planes and helicopters
that track aircraft altitude. If this happens, it could prohibit planes
from landing in poor visibility, leading to delays, diversions and even
the cancellations of flights."
