Subject: Network flaw causes scary Web error Message-ID: <hitres$80i$1@news.eternal-september.org> Anyone have this bug? AP Exclusive: Network flaw causes scary Web error By JORDAN ROBERTSON AP Technology Writer SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A Georgia mother and her two daughters logged onto Facebook from mobile phones last weekend and wound up in a startling place: strangers' accounts with full access to troves of private information. The glitch - the result of a routing problem at the family's wireless carrier, AT&T - revealed a little known security flaw with far reaching implications for everyone on the Internet, not just Facebook users. In each case, the Internet lost track of who was who, putting the women into the wrong accounts. It doesn't appear the users could have done anything to stop it. The problem adds a dimension to researchers' warnings that there are many ways online information - from mundane data to dark secrets - can go away. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_TEC_FACEBOOK_ATT_GLITCH?SITE=TXMCA&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT -- The only good spammer is a dead one!! It was cheap to buy (far cheaper than a Bluetooth), has good voice quality, and the cord is not a problem.

This is about wireless microphones that are used by many religious organizations, musicians, theatrical productions, schools, broadcasters, and more. The larger and more professional groups know about this issue and typically have the resources to replace their equipment. Most of the smaller users have no idea about this and will only learn of it when their mics stop working when a wireless company turns on a 700 Mhz system in the area. Compounding this is the simple fact that even if a smaller organization is aware of the problem, the often do not have the money to replace their existing systems. Note that several of the major produces of wireless microphones are offering rebates to help defray the cost of replacements. A quick Google search will yield details. -Gary
