T1 is a 1.544 Mbit/s "digital" signal consisting of 24 "digital" channels. When used to carry voice calls, one channel is reserved for maintenance/synchronisation, leaving 23 channels for the customer. Each such channel only carries a digital signal: ISDN telephone signal or a "digitised" analogue telephone conversation.
