The world's top cell phone maker Nokia (NOK1V.HE) said on Wednesday it
and its license users have shipped more than 100 million smartphones
using Nokia's S60 software platform.

S60 is used extensively in Nokia's line-up of more expensive models and
in the smartphones of LG Electronics (006570.KS) and Samsung Electronics

Findings from research firm Canalys previously showed that the S60
software platform, built on the Symbian operating system, is used in
54 percent of smartphones shipped. Its main rivals are Microsoft's
Windows Mobile and Linux.

As cell phone prices decline, handset vendors have started to look for
new revenues from potentially lucrative software operations.
