Use a web browser on the script reader.htm to get started. Unix users may prefer to use the xv viewer in individual directories: e.g. xv * Western Union Technical Review was published from 1947 through 1968. In 1947 there were two issues, produced from typewritten originals on 8-1/2 x 11 paper. However the copy in U. of Arizona library in Tucson is printed in the 7 x 10 size. From 1948 through 1967 there were four issues per year, printed in a size of 7 x 10. In 1968 there were four issues in a size of 8-1/2 x 11. In 1969, the final year, there were five issues in a size of 8-1/2 x 11. Some of these images were scanned directly from the magazine, and some from photocopies of the magazine pages. Gamma adjustments have been made in some cases to try to bring out detail that is otherwise lost in the black depths. Where 7 x 10 images have been enlarged it was done on the photocopier. Images were scanned at 600 bits per inch and compressed by the image viewer program. If somebody can furnish copies of the magazine for those issues where the scans are from photocopies I will gladly make new scans from the original magazine, which should improve the quality. Copyright status of this material is uncertain. It was once copyrighted by the Western Union Telegraph Co. That company has changed its name to New Valley Corp. and is principally in the real estate business. New Valley has not responded to requests for information about the copyright and permission to reproduce the material. The Western Union name was sold, along with the money transfer business, to another company. That company has not responded to questions about copyright either.
