In a complaint first announced in September 2021, the FTC alleged that Support King, LLC, which did business as SpyFone.com, and its CEO Scott Zuckerman sold stalkerware apps that allowed purchasers to surreptitiously monitor photos, text messages, web histories, GPS locations, and other personal information on the phone on which the app was installed without the device owner's knowledge. https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2021/12/ftc-finalizes-order-banning-stalkerware-provider-spyware-business - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It's amazing what turns up when you go poking around the FTC web site on a Saturday morning. I hope one of my readers will explain to me what "Stalkerware" is, and why I've never heard of it before. Now, I've been sidelined for a while, so I'm not up on current news, but I would have thought that this would be seen on the nightly news all over the U.S. Was it? These refunds are the result of a 2014 settlement with T-Mobile. The first round of checks mailed in February 2017. Because the FTC recovered additional funds from several third-party crammers, the FTC is mailing 164,440 additional checks totaling more than $9.6 million. If you receive a check, you have 90 days to cash it. The FTC provides answers to common questions about refund payments on our FAQ page. If you have any other questions, please call the refund administrator at 1-844-746-4695. https://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/refunds/t-mobile-refunds ***** Moderator's Note ***** I don't know when this was issued: it's a "Round two" announcement AFAICT, but it has a date from 2021.
