Fox , Scott Thompson , Angela Y. Kung , Daniel P. Reing and Christen B'anca Glenn The next-generation of wireless technologies - known as 5G - is here. Not only is it expected to offer network speeds that are up to 100 times faster than 4G LTE and reduce latency to nearly zero, it will allow networks to handle 100 times the number of connected devices, revolutionizing business and consumer connectivity and enabling the "Internet of Things." Leading policymakers - federal regulators and legislators - are making it a top priority to ensure that the wireless industry has the tools it needs to maintain U.S. leadership in commercial 5G deployments. This blog provides monthly updates on FCC actions and Congressional efforts to win the race to 5G. https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/new-technology/1023268/what39s-new-in-5g--january-2021?email_access=on ***** Moderator's Note ***** There are other paragraphs on the page. Harrington Foreign ownership of US wireless telecommunications and broadcast entities is capped at 25%, absent approval from the Federal Communi- cations Commission. In recent years, the FCC has formalized its review of foreign ownership requests and has allowed up to 100% foreign ownership in some cases. The FCC will not, however, approve a request for increased foreign ownership until that request has also been reviewed and approved by certain executive branch agencies, commonly referred to as "Team Telecom," as well as by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US when necessary. https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/telecoms-mobile-cable-communications/1023714/fcc-seeks-to-expedite-review-of-proposals-for-foreign-ownership-of-us-telecommunications-and-broadcast-entities-?email_access=on -- Bill Horne ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 14 Jan 2021
