The blast seriously damaged a key AT&T network facility, an important hub that provides local wireless, internet and video service and connects to regional networks. Backup generators went down, which took service out hours after the blast. A fire broke out and forced an evacuation. The building flooded, with more than three feet of water later pumped out of the basement; AT&T said there was still water on the second floor as of Monday. https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/national-international/nashville-bombing-spotlights-vulnerable-voice-data-networks/2394024/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <E39807AF-9EB0-493B-87B1-BED8963BBA86@roscom.com> Date: 30 Dec 2020 10:59:51 -0500 From: "Monty Solomon" <monty@roscom.com> Subject: When Nashville Bombing Hit a Telecom Hub, the Ripples Reached Far Beyond When Nashville Bombing Hit a Telecom Hub, the Ripples Reached Far Beyond Investigators are questioning whether the perpetrator specifically targeted the building. The explosion disrupted 911 call centers, hospitals and cell service in several states. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/29/us/nashville-bombing-telecommunications.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210101000617.64410758@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 1 Jan 2021 00:06:17 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: COVID Precautions Complicate Communication with Inmates at Montana Prisons By Jess Sheldahl In an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, Montana's prisons have stopped allowing in person visits to inmates since March. As cases continue to stack up across the state and inside correctional facilities, difficulties maintaining communication between inmates and their loved ones have also increased. Experts say isolation among inmates can negatively impact inmates' mental health and make it harder for them to adjust once out of prison. https://www.mtpr.org/post/covid-precautions-complicate-communication-inmates-montana-prisons ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210101024935.GA28442@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 1 Jan 2021 02:49:36 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Happy New Year To All My Readers!
