Seligman Nineteen VoIP providers, unnamed, have received letters from the FTC, warning them that actions "assisting and facilitating" various illegal telemarketing activities is itself illegal and potentially actionable under the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR). The letters detail the types of conduct that violates the TSR - such as initiating or causing the initiation of calls that deliver prerecorded messages, unless the person called provided the seller express written permission to call - and cite the relevant provision of the TSR that prohibits "assisting and facilitating" that conduct. http://www.mondaq.com/Article/889938 -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <dff17433-a83d-45b1-a74e-6a30e90998c3@googlegroups.com> Date: 5 Feb 2020 12:58:29 -0800 From: HAncock4 <withheld@invalid.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Re: Verizon outage hits Western Pennsylvania On Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 3:30:28 PM UTC-5, Moderator wrote: > Cellphone outages and spotty service were being reported by many > Verizon Wireless customers Tuesday morning, with problems popping up > across the Pittsburgh region and beyond. > https://www.readingeagle.com/news/state/verizon-outage-hits-western-pennsylvania/article_306b4aa2-6581-5231-9c8e-18e28de79e29.html You mention the Reading Eagle. Aronie , Jonathan E. Meyer and Townsend Bourne At the end of 2019, the Department of Defense ("DoD") took another step to limit the potential cyber risks posed by telecommunications equipment manufactured by Chinese companies (and potentially Russian ones too). We previously have blogged on this topic here, here, here, here, here, and here, noting developments both in terms of general, government-wide regulations through the FAR Council, and those specifically emanating from DoD. On December 31, 2019, DoD issued a Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) interim rule to further implement parts of the 2018 and 2019 National Defense Authorization Acts ("NDAA"). http://www.mondaq.com/Article/889810 -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 08 Feb 2020
