Sinrod For many decades, Americans have taken to the roads to get from one place to another. And, in more recent times, Americans have become addicted to their smartphones - texting, posting, online searching, making purchases, among many other uses of their devices. Put the two together, driving and smartphone use, and there is a clear recipe for potential disaster. Driving an automobile already is an inherently dangerous activity. Utmost attention should be paid to driving because split-second decisions can mean the difference between life and health versus injury or death. http://www.mondaq.com/article.asp?articleid=789112&email_access=on -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190323212245.GA12949@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 23 Mar 2019 21:22:45 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Canada: The Federal Government Signals A New Policy Approach For The CRTC in the Telecom Sector On February 26, 2019, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) tabled a Proposed Order Issuing a Direction to the CRTC on Implementing the Canadian Telecommunications Policy Objectives to Promote Competition, Affordability, Consumer Interests and Innovation (the "Proposed Policy Direction"). Section 8 of the Telecommunications Act permits the government to issue directions to the CRTC "of general application on broad policy matters" with respect to the statutory policy objectives relating to Canadian telecommunications that are set out in the Act. If implemented substantially in the form as proposed, the Proposed Policy Direction will likely have a significant impact on the telecommunications regulatory framework overseen by the CRTC, in particular the manner in which the Commission exercises its powers and performs its duties in implementing the Canadian telecommunications policy objectives set out in section 7 of the Act. http://www.mondaq.com/article.asp?articleid=789644&email_access=on -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190323235019.GA13426@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 23 Mar 2019 23:50:19 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: New FCC Enforcement Powers Follow Passage Of Anti-Spoofing Law Article by Alan L. Friel, Linda Goldstein, Amy Ralph Mudge and Randal M. Shaheen The RAY BAUMS Act extends an important provision of the Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009. That act forbade the transmission of misleading or inaccurate caller ID information "with the intent to defraud, cause harm or wrongly obtain anything of value" - the practice known as "spoofing." The RAY BAUMS Act extends the same prohibition to text messages and international calls, a new initiative that the FCC has taken on in the hope of reducing instances of illegal spoofing. http://www.mondaq.com/article.asp?articleid=789584&email_access=on -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <5DFB04FB-AE36-40CE-BB5D-BF3ABF79B49F@roscom.com> Date: 25 Mar 2019 14:32:38 -0400 From: "Monty Solomon" <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Build a Better Broadband Access Map Build a Better Broadband Access Map After years of opposing measures that would make broadband availability maps better, a telecom trade group says it is "leading the charge" on creating a better map. https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/a3bpbp/no-one-trusts-big-telecom-to-build-a-better-broadband-access-map ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Wed, 27 Mar 2019
