Friday 6 December 2019 By Tim Poulus | Market Commentary More and more operators are looking at selling off passive networks. This underlines not only the value of such networks, but also the advantages of structural separation. However, these sale and lease- back constructions carry a risk: what happens at the end of the lease with the costs, given the new owner has a monopoly? Hindsight may show this can end up being a tragic mistake. https://www.telecompaper.com/commentary/selling-passive-network-assets-a-tragic-mistake-for-the-telco--1318963 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20191207191957.GA25689@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 7 Dec 2019 19:19:57 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: US consumer groups call on FCC, Congress to address nation's aging telecom network US consumer group Public Knowledge said it joined 23 other public interest, civil rights, tribal, and rural advocacy groups, urging the FCC to address public safety concerns about the state of the country's communications network, which the letter said is getting increasingly fragile and unreliable. https://www.telecompaper.com/news/us-consumer-groups-call-on-fcc-congress-to-address-nations-aging-telecom-network--1318898 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <fecaf249-d60a-47ed-b5f0-06e765f360fd@googlegroups.com> Date: 9 Dec 2019 06:14:41 -0800 From: "Jeffrey Walton" <noloader@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Baxter County, AR: A letter to the editor On Sunday, December 8, 2019 at 2:11:59 PM UTC-5, Bill Horne wrote: > Wants to hang up with CenturyLink > > I have had it! > > I am not the one who writes - that would be my sweet dad, Shirrell > Hipp, who passed away last year. A rule I follow when referring to them... People are "who". Companies are property. They are owned by share holders. Companies don't have a moral compass. Don't personify them. You should refer to them as "it" or "that": I am sick of these huge companies that do what they want and not what they should Jeff ***** Moderator's Note ***** Jeff, No offense, but your reply would probably have more chance of being read by the original author if you send it to the same editor at the same newspaper. But, whatever, I'll assume (s)he reads the Telecom Digest. ;-) Bill Horne Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20191209212650.GA6475@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 9 Dec 2019 21:26:50 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: T-Mobile Workers Vote to Join CWA Despite Intimidation Campaign Workers at a Bay Area T-Mobile retail store in Pinole, Calif., have voted to join CWA. During the election campaign, T-Mobile engaged in unlawful intimidation of the workers, holding one-on-one interrogations about their union activity and threatening to fire them. The T-Mobile employees in Pinole persisted despite T-Mobile's threat of retaliation. "All wireless workers deserve a voice on the job to address wages, benefits, and working conditions," said CWA District 9 Vice President Frank Arce. "This is just the first step. T-Mobile has already shown their disregard for laws that protect workers. We will be keeping a close eye on the company as these workers negotiate their first contract to make sure that the talks proceed smoothly and without delay." https://cwa-union.org/news/e-newsletter/2019-12-05 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Tue, 10 Dec 2019
