Ending 'Spoofing' Should Be Next. Some in the business community are decrying the Federal Communications Commission's recent decision to allow carriers to automatically block robocalls unless customers opt out, saying it will make it harder for them to hawk their services to people who haven't indicated they're interested in receiving a telephone sales pitch. Yes, it will make it harder - that's the whole point. Robocalls are the scourge of the communications industry, blowing up Americans' phones almost 48 billion times last year alone by one estimate. The FCC move is way overdue. https://www.creators.com/read/daily-editorials/06/19/fcc-move-against-robocalls-is-way-overdue-ending-spoofing-should-be-next -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190612161336.GA22201@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2019 16:13:36 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Did You Know the Trick to Charging Your Phone Faster? By Douglas A. McIntyre Smartphone batteries have one nagging problem. When they run down, it can take three hours to recharge them. The number is better than several years ago. However, there is a way to decrease the time on a charger, even with today's superior batteries. https://247wallst.com/consumer-electronics/2019/06/12/did-you-know-the-trick-to-charging-your-phone-faster/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190612160525.GA21950@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2019 16:05:28 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: AT&T got a tax windfall and gave me a lay-off notice By Darren Kelly I was a premises technician at AT&T who installed cable and internet services in our customers' homes. I'm proud that I helped make AT&T a leading, reliable telecommunications provider in the Sacramento area. Like many of my coworkers, I built a good life here with my family because of my middle class, union job at AT&T. I'm not rich, but I've been able to put my 18-year-old daughter through college, and thought when the time comes, I'd be able to retire with dignity and stability. https://calmatters.org/articles/commentary/att-jobs/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 13 Jun 2019
