CenturyLink is now on its fourth iteration of NFV, and while there have been some pain points along the way, CenturyLink's Bill Walker says the journey has been worth it. "We're finally retiring 1.0," said Walker, senior director of strategy and advancement for CenturyLink. "As we've developed it (NFV) over time, obviously the automation and orchestration has matured and it's gotten much better. Most of the products have not migrated. We are migrating the products and services from 1.0 into the new platform. But, they are both are running fine." https://www.fiercetelecom.com/telecom/centurylink-continues-to-scale-evolutionary-nfv-ladder -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ***** Moderator's Note ***** Would someone please explain what "NFV" is, or does? Now they must rethink expansion plans, and perhaps replace existing gear. OPHEIM, Mont. - Kevin Nelson was recently in the middle of his 3,800-acre farm in northeast Montana, where the landscape stretches out like an ocean, when his tractor broke. He tried to find a cellular signal strong enough to send a photo of the broken part to a repair shop 65 miles away, but failed. "It's really frustrating," Mr. Nelson, 47, said about the poor reception. "We keep being told it's going to improve,it's going to improve." https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/25/technology/huawei-rural-wireless-service.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <62B6D539-C3FF-4906-AE1D-55055DAB9977@roscom.com> Date: 25 May 2019 15:38:59 -0400 From: "Monty Solomon" <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Qualcomm: The Party's Over Qualcomm: The Party's Over Summary The troubled Apple relationship. AT&T has transformed itself into a media colossus by buying Time Warner, and understanding how the company plans to use its incredible array of content from HBO, CNN, TNT, and others in combination with its huge distribution networks across mobile broadband, DirecTV, and U-verse is important for anyone who cares about tech, media, or both. Seriously, go read it. Here's the part I want you to pay attention to: two quick paragraphs describing how AT&T sees the future of advertising across those media properties and networks. It's the same plan AT&T has laid out before, but it's more specific now https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/22/18635674/att-location-ad-tracking-data-collection-privacy-nightmare ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190527001120.GA29054@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 27 May 2019 00:11:20 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Colorado: Nationwide CenturyLink outage affects Eagle County businesses, schools CenturyLink was hit with a nationwide outage Thursday morning, and the issue has spread to Eagle County businesses and schools.
