It isn't clear when Martin will take the stand. "I'm not sure what the consequences will be," said U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Leon, more than a little ominously, after a 90-minute delay opened Monday's action. As attorneys huddled and held a series of sidebar discussions at the judge's bench, white noise was piped into the courtroom, a standard (if Guantanamo Bay-like) tactic designed to prevent the 150 or so observers, including the press, from hearing any of the exchanges. http://deadline.com/2018/03/intrigue-pre-empts-john-martin-of-turner-testimony-att-doj-antitrust-trial-1202353385/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <msqhbdtvtp5smgc6vb87m8ig8cnlpr9njt@4ax.com> Date: Mon, 26 Mar 2018 08:47:45 -0400 From: Pete Cresswell <PeteCress@invalid.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Re: The shady data-gathering tactics used by Cambridge Analytica were an open secret to online marketers. Per Monty Solomon: >The shady data-gathering tactics used by Cambridge Analytica were an open >secret ... Online Analytica aside, I have trouble getting my head around the apparent fact that most FaceBook users are unaware of FB's business model which, AFAIK, is to gather data about users and sell it. How else do they think these guys are paying the bills? Or am I wrong? +--------------------------------------------------------------+ Pete Cresswell ***** Moderator's Note ***** You're wrong. Several Twitter users have reported finding months or years of call history data in their downloadable Facebook data file. A number of Facebook users have been spooked by the recent Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal, prompting them to download all the data that Facebook stores on their account. The results have been alarming for some. "Oh wow my deleted Facebook Zip file contains info on every single phone cellphone call and text I made for about a year," says Twitter user Mat Johnson. Another, Dylan McKay, says "somehow it has my entire call history with my partner's mum." Others have found a similar pattern where it appears close contacts, like family members, are the only ones tracked in Facebook's call records. https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/25/17160944/facebook-call-history-sms-data-collection-android ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Tue, 27 Mar 2018
