"We conducted a thorough investigation which shows that when the 911 call was placed, CenturyLink provided the correct phone number and address," a company spokesman said. http://fox4kc.com/2018/03/15/centurylink-says-it-provided-correct-address-in-911-call-that-led-to-clinton-officers-death/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180316184556.GA16511@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2018 14:45:56 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Here's what you need to know about the U.S. lawsuit against the AT&T-Time Warner merger The Trump administration has sued to block AT&T's $85 billion takeover of CNN-owned Time Warner. The trial starts March 21. Here's what you need to know. By Edmund Lee AT&T and Time Warner plan to merge in a $85 billion deal that would unite one of the largest distributors of content with one of the biggest producers of content, a roster that includes hits like HBO's "Game of Thrones," the Harry Potter films and major cable franchises like CNN. But not if the Justice Department has its way. The U.S. government has sued to block the deal, a move that some fret is actually political reprisal for CNN's reporting on President Trump. The trial begins on Wednesday, March 21. https://www.recode.net/2018/3/16/17110870/doj-lawsuit-att-time-warner-merger-explained-trump-cnn -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180316184054.GA16471@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2018 14:40:54 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Following Sprint layoff announcement, Kansas agencies arrange tech job fair Following Sprint layoff announcement, Kansas agencies arrange tech job fair in Lenexa Jay Senter Following the announcement that Sprint would be laying off hundreds of employees in the coming weeks, the Kansas Department of Commerce, KANSASWORKS and Workforce Partnership are organizing a fair to connect skilled technology workers with openings in the Johnson County market and beyond. "There are currently over 6,000 technology-related jobs in Kansas, and 3,690 of those are within a 25-mile radius of Overland Park," Robert North, Interim Secretary for the Kansas Department of Commerce, said in the announcement. "We know there are an abundance of opportunities in Kansas for technology professionals, and this job fair will provide a great opportunity to match Kansas employers with the skilled and valuable employees they need to fill their crucial positions." https://shawneemissionpost.com/2018/03/16/following-sprint-layoff-announcement-kansas-agencies-arrange-tech-job-fair-lenexa-70317 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180316185102.GA16553@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 16 Mar 2018 14:51:02 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Colt, Verizon Take Giant Leap for Cross-Carrier Automation The demonstration was as smooth and uneventful as anyone could have hoped. A vast screen showed two video streams of the same footage, one stuttering and fuzzy. Using a separate monitor and PC, a technician selected a bandwidth upgrade from a drop-down menu. Minutes later, and with minimal fuss, the video quality was restored. To the casual observer, it was not exactly the moon landing on the excitement scale. But it was a giant leap for network automation, where the less dazzle the better. Previously, an enterprise customer of a telco trying to upgrade an off-net connection would have faced a byzantine process and a long wait. This week it was done with the click of a mouse. https://www.lightreading.com/automation/colt-verizon-take-giant-leap-for-cross-carrier-automation/d/d-id/741457 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 17 Mar 2018
