Tinsley Texas prisoners are about to get a break. At a time where the cost of nearly everything seems to be skyrocketing, inmates across the state will soon find it cheaper to call family and friends. Starting Sept. 1, inmates will pay 6 cents for each minute they talk on the phone, no matter where they are calling. That's down from 26 cents a minute. https://www.star-telegram.com/article217387590.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180903035201.GA15907@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2018 23:52:01 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Trump urges AT&T to oust CNN news chief WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday reiterated his attack on CNN over what he said was biased news coverage against him, saying the AT&T-owned news broadcaster should fire news chief Jeff Zucker. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-at-t/trump-urges-att-to-oust-cnn-news-chief-idUSKCN1LF1AK -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180903033747.GA15813@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2018 23:37:47 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint unlimited plans compared There are more than a dozen unlimited data plans offered by the four major US carriers. We compare them all to help you navigate the fine print and save your patience. BY Patrick Holland Editors' note: This article was originally published on Feb. 13, 2017. Since that time, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon all announced multiple changes to their unlimited data plans. The information below reflects the prices and features of unlimited plans as of Aug. 9, 2018. Data limits, prioritization and throttling The unlimited plans from the big four carriers all come with unlimited talk, texting and data -- oh, if only things were that straightforward. But there's a catch -- when you hit a certain data limit, your 4G LTE data speeds can be slowed temporarily or for the remainder of the billing cycle. Some carriers like Verizon send your data needs to the back of the line. Here's how each carrier handles prioritization and throttling when you cross your data limit: https://www.cnet.com/how-to/verizon-att-t-mobile-sprint-unlimited-data-plan-compared/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180903034414.GA15865@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 2 Sep 2018 23:44:14 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Kansans Already Paid For Rural Broadband By Daniel P. Friesen The history of Kansas is marred by battles of ideology that marked a change in direction and placed Kansas in the crossroads between our nation's past and its future. USTelecom, a lobbying arm for AT&T, Centurylink, and other telecom goliaths, along with NTCA, a consortium of independent telephone companies, have again placed Kansas at the center of a battle over the future of the country with a recent Op-Ed published by the Topeka Capital-Journal. This time, it's about broadband. http://www.hutchnews.com/news/20180902/kansans-already-paid-for-rural-broadband -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Mon, 03 Sep 2018
