In April, 1954, Fredericksburg, VA, cutover to dial. It was such a big deal that the newspaper printed a special section describing in detail the cutover process, the telephone company, and ads by customers. see (right side): https://books.google.com/books?id=R2gRAAAAIBAJ&lpg=PA12&dq=manual%20switchboard&pg=PA8#v=onepage&q=manual%20switchboard&f=false see also front page: (right bottom) "Carefully detailed midnight operation to give city long awaited dial phones". https://books.google.com/books?id=R2gRAAAAIBAJ&lpg=PA12&dq=manual%20switchboard&pg=PA1#v=onepage&q=manual%20switchboard&f=false ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180724001626.GA30367@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2018 20:16:26 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Do Verizon Investors Know About This $300 Million Secret? By Michael Henage Verizon Communications reports earnings soon and, as always, investors are wondering what's coming next. With all the mergers in the communications and entertainment industry, many have been guessing when Verizon would jump into the pool. Over the last several years, the company's stock has become a pseudo utility with good dividends but not much upside in the shares. There are several items investors need to look for in Verizon's next earnings report, and one in particular that could drive the stock price in the short-term. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4189128-verizon-investors-know-300-million-secret -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180724005953.GA30597@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2018 20:59:53 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Saving on your cell phone bill By: Ann McAdams WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Unless you are lucky enough to have a phone that is paid for by your employer, most consumers get a monthly cell phone bill. Smart phones have gotten increasingly expensive, and monthly cellular and data plans can take a significant bite out of your budget. The bills and various fees can be confusing to some consumers and it can be hard to catch an error if you don't understand the charges to begin with. WECT is breaking down the bill, helping you understand what you're paying for and how to avoid paying too much. http://www.wect.com/story/38708189/bill-skills-saving-on-your-cell-phone-bill -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180724002447.GA30411@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2018 20:24:47 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Is Comcast's Xfinity Mobile a good deal? by Christian Hetrick Here's something that may surprise you: Switching to Comcast can save you money. The cable and broadband giant, often criticized for its rising bills and fees, has one of the best deals for cellphone service on the market - if you don't use a lot of data. There are some caveats. You have to be an existing Comcast internet customer to subscribe. And heavy use on multiple lines erases Comcast's advantage. http://www.philly.com/philly/business/consumer_news/comcast-xfinity-mobile-cellphone-20180723.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20180724001923.GA30392@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2018 20:19:23 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: 911 service restored in northwest Georgia The problems had been an issue since Friday.
