Subject: T-Mobile’s move for Mint reignites debate over MVNOs
By Monica Alleven
T-Mobile’s move to buy Mint Mobile and its affiliated brands Ultra
Mobile and Plum is raising questions yet again about the competitive
role Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) play in the U.S. market.
Most industry insiders would probably agree they play a critical role,
but the government’s taken a kind of Jekyll and Hyde stance.

Moderator's Note
Some readers will remember that I publicized my disappointment
with the way Verizon issued it's "Not quite 4G" decision and
forced my wife to buy a new phone. She chose Consumer Cellular,
but I had already abandoned Verizon in favor of - you guessded
it - Mint Mobile. I've been happy with their service, but
now I'm wondering it the next big Orgy-of-Obfuscation will
leave me without any choice but to pony up for the full-price
offers.
Bill Horne | I would suggest that you try CC with your wife. They offer a discount
if you have two lines with them on the same bill. I had CC at one
point, with two other family members on the plan. You can port your
same phone number over to them. CC works off of either AT&T or T-Mobile
network.
The only reason I switched from CC, was because it cost me about $20/mo
for their basic plan, and I found a T-Mobile plan that only bills me 10
cents/minute, and nothing more. I primarily use my land line, so this
worked out to a cell bill that costs me under $5/mo, on average.
