Subject: UT: Layton woman scammed by T-Mobile impersonator
This story is told by TV reporters in Salt Lake CIty, UT, and although
I don't usually post info about TV shows, I'm making an exception, since
the crime that was described sounds like something unusual.
If you can provide details about how such a fraud could be perpetrated,
please send in a reply with details. Thank you!

Subject: Polish regulator accuses T-Mobile of misleading advertising
WARSAW, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Polish regulator UOKiK has accused the Polish
unit of T-Mobile of misleading advertising relating to a free mobile
data offer, with the company potentially facing a fine of 10% of annual
revenue.
UOKiK said on Monday that T-Mobile Polska's slogan “1200 GB free for a
year” was misleading as 100 GB Internet packages are granted each month,
for a maximum of 12 months, as long as the consumer renews the offer
periodically at a cost of at least 35 zlotys ($7.99).

I publish posts about 911 outages for two reasons:
- I used to be in charge of the E911 network in New England, and I
still feel a responsibility to publicize failures.
- There are serious weaknesses in the E911 system's security, and I
have not seen or heard of any effort to reduce or eliminate them.

Subject: Supreme Court will consider ‘huge’ attorney-client
privilege case
By Mark Walsh
January 5, 2023, 1:47 pm CST
The case has an air of mystery about it. Many documents have been
filed under seal. A federal appeals court referred to the central
entities only as “company” and “law firm.”
In the U.S. Supreme Court, redacted copies of briefs reveal that that
“law firm” is one specializing in international tax law, and the owner
of “company” is an “early promoter of bitcoin” who “expatriated from
the United States in 2014.”

It might seem, on first glance, that this isn’t related to
telecommunications.
However, law-enforcement at all levels of government - and some
private investigators - have access to “pen-recorder” data which
shows what numbers I have dialed on my home phone. If a policeman
thinks I’ve committed a crime, (s)he will look at my recent phone
calls, and if one of them was made to an attorney, (s)he might
decide that fact is sufficient to justify devoting resources to the
case which would not otherwise be available.
We’ve all heard the adage “Be careful what you wish for.” We all
might wish for more effective and timely law enforcement - but it’s
important to consider the costs of getting our wish fulfilled.
