Subject: An Expert's Look At The Current Wireless Landscape And
Potential Disputes In 2023
by Paige McKirahan (New York)
What's to come in the wireless space as 5G offerings ramp up in 2023?
We asked WIT IP Panel member and leading wireless expert Dr. Muriel
Medard to evaluate the industry with regard to 5G technology, wireless
innovation, and more.
Wireless technology is propelling innovation forward in
transportation, video gaming, education, and a myriad of other
markets, and this is only going to become more advanced as widespread
5G rollouts continue throughout the country. But this large of an
overtaking doesn't come without complications, and 2023 is projected
to be hectic when it comes to litigation in the space.

Did they get their money back?
What about business?
Who pays for the damage?

Years ago, the phone company trenched through our yard to run an
underground phone cable to my parents' home and business property.
After they were done, I noticed that power to a shed on the business
property was out.
When I called the phone company, they told me to call the power
company [which of course, I wasn't buying into). They kept
denying responsibility despite the fact that they had trenched
through the property when power went out to the shed.
When I wasn't going to take no for an answer, they got a
supervisor involved.
He called a local electrical contractor. The contractor came out
to the property. I showed them where the phone company had
trenched. They determined that the phone company had cut the
power feeder to the shed when they trenched though.
The electrician repaired it at the phone company's expense. We got
power back to the shed.
My father was just flabbergasted that I was able to get that done.
It pays to know what is going on and what the correct course of action
is. The responsible party will generally deny their responsibility
for something like that.
Stick to your guns. You can bring about such a resolution.
Regards,
Fred Atkinson

Subject: Biden F.C.C. Nominee Withdraws
Gigi Sohn, who was first nominated by President Biden in October 2021,
said she had faced “unrelenting, dishonest and cruel attacks” on her
character and career.
By David McCabe
One of President Biden’s nominees to the Federal Communications
Commission, Gigi Sohn, withdrew from consideration for the job on
Tuesday, saying she had faced “unrelenting, dishonest and cruel
attacks on my character and my career as an advocate for the public
interest.”
Ms. Sohn’s announcement came shortly after Senator Joe Manchin,
Democrat of West Virginia, said he would vote against her nomination,
denying her a crucial vote in a closely divided Senate. In a
statement, Mr. Manchin said the commission “must remain above the
toxic partisanship that Americans are sick and tired of, and Ms. Sohn
has clearly shown she is not the person to do that.”

Subject: The FBI Just Admitted It Bought US Location Data
Rather than obtaining a warrant, the bureau purchased sensitive data -
a controversial practice that privacy advocates say is deeply
problematic.
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has acknowledged for
the first time that it purchased US location data rather than obtaining
a warrant. While the practice of buying people's location data has
grown increasingly common since the US Supreme Court reined in the
government's ability to warrantlessly track Americans' phones nearly
five years ago, the FBI had not previously revealed ever making such
purchases.
