Subject: FCC Updates Equipment Authorization Rules
by Henry Wendel (New York) and J.G. Harrington (New York)
In 2022, the Federal Communications Commission adopted rules to
implement the Secure Equipment Act of 2021. Those rules, which in
large part took effect on February 6, 2023, prevent manufacturers on
the FCC's Covered List – companies whose products are deemed to pose a
risk by national security agencies – from obtaining the equipment
authorizations necessary to sell new or updated products in US
markets. Any manufacturer on the list is subject to the ban, but the
FCC's new rules do not apply to information security products,
solutions and services, or telecommunications services provided by
entities on the Covered List.

Subject: T-Mobile CFO says cable's wireless growth isn't profitable
Just as the cable MSOs like to downplay the competitive impact of
fixed wireless access (FWA) on their broadband businesses, wireless
operators like to minimize the effect of the cable industry’s wireless
gains on their core business.
Charter and Comcast reported higher-than-expected wireless subscriber
numbers in Q4 with Charter adding 615,000 mobile lines in the quarter
and 1.7 million mobile lines for the full year. Comcast added 365,000
wireless lines in Q4 and 1.3 million lines for the full year. But
T-Mobile says these subscriber numbers aren't necessarily a good
thing.

The Digest frequently carries the top of stories from Mondaq. These
are generally written by and for lawyers who defend the telemarketing/
spam/robocalling industry against lawsuits. So they are not aimed at
consumers. Their main value here is as a window into the way the
“enemy” thinks.
